I am a big fan of all kinds of visual arts. That’s why relevant pictures (photos and drawings) are pretty much always included in my posts.
Most of the time I find them on websites that allow sharing/downloading. I include them in my post or a new webpage - with credits backlink to the artist’s page.
As soon as my new article gets published, I notify the copyright owner about featuring their picture and let them know where they can check the use of their art piece out. I also always say thank you.
That was my practice for years now and it works well. Only a couple of times a photographer didn’t like the way I included their photos and I promptly removed them as soon as they let me know so.
I did try other ways, however. Like asking for permission to use someone’s images in advance, before I even started writing new post.

Some artists responded promptly, others in a few days, weeks or months – and many never did. After a while I realized that I won’t be able to publish many of my articles this way and I quit asking.
I have to say that most of the authors express their thankfulness for featuring their work and I have a lot of respect and appreciation for their art pieces that make my posts look nicer and easier to read. Not to mention that a picture is still worth thousands of words.
At this time there are more creativity around than probably ever before. People are more and more open to the idea of expressing their true selves and sharing what they do. With internet, of course, not even the sky is the limit.
This writing is my token of appreciation to all the authors of any kind of art work I’ve ever cooperated with – and there are quite a few! – for the beauty they keep bringing to this world and for sharing it with the rest of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
