Wasps at my front door

Wasps

For the second year in a row, wasps have been very persistent in building new nests at my front door. For some time we were using the services of the pest control company, involved in the construction of this house. Strangely enough, every time after the exterminator brushed outside of the house and sprayed all around it – it seemed to me the bug presence instantly spiked up. It made me wonder it they used the chemicals that actually attract pests – and then kill them…

After a few pest control episodes we didn’t take any action to keep the famous Florida pests in check and the only ones that I noticed around the house were wasps, building their nests around the garage door and the main entrance.

Still, I don’t mind any flora members – for as long as they stay out of my face so I let them be – until I got stung on my shoulder twice in a row… lol. That did it!

For the first time in my life I went to get the wasp spray and Erik and I were working on our strategy to get rid of all the wasp nests once and for all. I still have to laugh every time I remember that first mission. To make a long story short – we were successful and wasp-free for the rest of the season.

This spring, however, I noticed another busy wasp builder putting together a new home – at my front door again! There’s still some wasp spray in one of the pantries but I never decided to use it. And then one day I noticed that there was another diligent creature out there – taking advantage of the situation.

A spider completely cornered off the wasp nest with its web – and soon after all the wasps were gone! It’s quite amazing, isn’t it, how often people tend to complain about the nature’s way while everything is in such a perfect order.

Anyway, that first wasp invasion was taken care of for me and a few hours ago, when I realized there was another wasp nest in making – right across from the first one, I decided to give that mighty spider another chance to fill up its food supplies. I’ll wait for a few days before I go look for that wasp spray from the top shelf.

Yes, I never kill spiders anymore they are just too useful as a means to keep the bug population down.

Thanks for using my photo… and thanks even more for letting me know. If you want to see where I originally used it, it’s part of my Kyle, Texas Daily Photo blog – http://kyledailyphoto.blogspot.com/2010/09/i-walked-my-daughter-to-neighbors.html

On a side note… I had a wasp next on my back porch a month ago… and one bit me on the Adam’s Apple… it was ruthless. :)

  4. Great post. Just an idea though – you should honestly think about sending your posts to stumbleupon – I think the readers there will love the news posts – also if you’re lucky it’ll mean extra traffic. Rgds, katie price bingo from New Jersey
