Busy time and another dance

My river is moving faster and faster. Being named after the river (Daria or Darya is a name of the major river in Central Asia) I thought this would be a good way to describe my get-up-and-go.

I’ve been going through the busiest time of my life and first of all I’d like to apologize for all the unanswered letters and emails.  Please bear with me, I’ll get to them eventually, they have not been forgotten or ignored.

All the things happening to me keep leaving me breathless – but only because they were all so much fun. I’ve been to a bachelorette party for the first time in my life and that was quite an experience. Not in terms of drinking since I’m not a drinker and on top of that I was honored to be the designated driver for the bride and her sister that night.

Bar-hopping was more an exposure for me – to the kind of partying I’m not much familiar with. Especially since bars with gaudy names like “Pickled Parrot” and “Felonies” are not exactly the kind of places where I’d expect to meet the love of my life… 😉 On a second thought, though, magic can happen anywhere!

Then, the wedding was beautiful, at the perfect place with superb food and manicured landscape, all the people were nice and the staff did a terrific job. I was once again (for the third time in a row) invited to the annual boat ride down the crystal clear and pristine Weeki Wachee River. Very much looking forward to that!

This week, the last Space Shuttle Discovery is scheduled to be launched for its final voyage into space. When the skies were clear, I’ve been able to see the shuttles flying away into the vastness of the universe from my house in the past. But seeing one from as close as one can get would probably be a very special experience. So I’m seriously considering a trip to the east coast of Florida.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – NASA is expecting good weather and an enthusiastic crowd of spectators for the space shuttle Discovery’s last-ever launch this Thursday (Feb. 24).

Discovery is slated to lift off on Thursday at 4:50 p.m. EST (2150 GMT) from a seaside pad here at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Current weather forecasts predict an 80 percent chance of favorable conditions for Thursday’s launch.

A few days ago I was putting together a new historical page. It was mostly finished late that night. I published it and went to bed. When I woke up in the morning, there was an email waiting for me, telling me that I have received a Purple Star for my creation, the highest recognition one can receive on Squidoo. That was yet another exciting thing that happened in the last few days. And if you’re up for some Florida history in images, click on the link below and check it out:

Also last week, I witnessed the most beautiful sunset ever – sitting behind my desk. Living in Florida since 2004 I’ve seen many sunsets in many different places. This one, however, was so rich in purple shades like I’ve never seen before, that I can’t even think of the words to describe it. And it seemed to last for ever. I was in awe.

I feel a little bit reluctant to admit that I was putting this post together almost all day. Of course I finished several other things during the day, like shopping and walking the dog and cooking the most delicious goulash ever (according to my son), I enjoyed the beautiful weather with the temperature in mid 70s and sun rays on my bare skin. Now, finally – here’s the most important reminder today:

Just in case it slipped your mind, Frank Moravcek is back in town, playing at the Suncoast SNPJ Lodge 778 Hall on County Line Road in Spring Hill, FL this Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 6 to 10 pm. Food will be served from 4 to 7 pm and the admission is $10. I hope you can make it. Email me or give me a call if you have any questions.

With my best wishes,
Daria
