Spring planting craze

Yellow Lantana

It seems to me I’m going through this every year – right after the weather turns from winter to spring and the temperatures are perfect to spend outside as much time as possible.

So I’m sitting here, all shaken up and dirty, my arms shaky and in pain from all the lifting, digging, transplanting and planting I’ve done this morning – and as happy as any butterfly that doesn’t have another care in the world but looking for another pretty bloom to visit.

Yesterday I took my son (straight from school) to Home Depot and Lowes, where we loaded another large planter (in raspberry color this time), some pavers that I put underneath the planters (it makes mowing grass around them much easier), more potting soil and quite a few plants.

I got some yellow lantanas this time – I’ve always liked them and since they are one of the Florida native plants, they are low-maintenance and blooming all season long. I planted them in four different flower beds around the house and now I’m curious to see how well they will perform.

It was impossible to resist for me to get another stonecrop plant, this time in silvery-green color. More and more I find them to be an excellent ground cover and the sun doesn’t seem to bother these plants one bit.

My roses have never had even close as many blooms as this year and I just love to see them first thing in the morning, from my bathroom window. They never fail to make me smile – and their scent is divine… 🙂
