Sun Conure parrot on the beach

I walked down the Florida beach on a quiet Sunday afternoon, enjoying the still-warm October Gulf waters, waving toward my bare feel, and gazing at the three entirely different sets of clouds that couldn’t be more different from each other in their color, shape and texture. Suddenly, something very colorful caught my eyes.

There was this brilliantly colored bird, sitting on a young man’s hand, looking beyond words content with all the attention he was getting. As I came closer, I saw it was a parrot. But I’ve never seen a parrot in such vivid sunset colors before!

So I commented on the bird’s beauty and found out that was a parrot Sun Parakeet or Sun Conure (Aratinga solstitialis). I also learned that the bird couldn’t fly, that he loved outdoors and lots of attention. I noticed that the bird didn’t mind his disadvantage of not being able to fly. Just the opposite. It seemed to me that it greatly enjoyed the benefits of the hardship.

After I continued my walk my thoughts wandered to some people I met or heard about. The people that are commonly called invalids – and yet they managed to make their life a success, proving to the world that seemingly impossible things can be achieved when someone dares to dream big, and have courage to follow their heart.

There sure was something special about this Sun Conure parrot. It reminded me how anyone can be happy, no matter what, if they so choose. And by looking on the bright side of life.

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t ask for permission to take a picture of a happy couple on the beach… 🙂

Sun Conures are known to be loving, easy to train, they enjoy being cuddled, talked to, and company. When deprived of socialization, they will complain loudly, with a shrieking voice. Learn more about these beautiful parrots in the video below.
