The biggest event of the year 2011

Straight to the point this time – since our Suncoast SNPJ Lodge 778 biggest event of the season is approaching faster than I feel comfortable with at the moment.

This year’s Florida SNPJ Days will start with an all day Jam Session on Friday, March 4 at 1 PM. The jamming groups are coming to the Spring Hill Hall from all over the place – at least one from South Florida, one from Pennsylvania and one from Ohio. You just might meet some musicians here on Friday that you didn’t expect. I will not publish any names at this time. I’ll let them surprise you. Simpy keep in mind that it’s going to be a great event! Look forward to seeing you on Friday, March 4 around 1 PM. Admission fee is $5.

Important note about Friday Jam Session: All the musicians are welcome – with any kind of instruments. The admission is free for all the musicians who participate in one of the jam sessions. The Grand Jam is planned to happen at 5 PM that day and everyone is welcome to join that one.

I’m pretty sure you’ve heard by now that we had a band switch for Saturday and Sunday, March 5 and 6: the entertainer for these two days will be Grammy nominated Alex Meixner Band instead of Polka Quads.

Our Saturday event will start at 6 PM until 10 PM. Food will be served from 4 to 7 PM. The admission for the day is $10.

On Sunday we’ll have an afternoon dance again. Alex Meixner Band will start playing at 2 to 6 PM and food will be available from noon till 3 PM. Admission $10.

There will be some yummy food choices available during Florida SNPJ Days 2011 event and the cash bar, traditionally run by Nežka, will be taking care of your thirst for the whole time. Bring your dancing shoes (optional), your ethnic costumes (for Sunday), your instruments (every day) and lots of smiles (mandatory!) and we’ll all have lots of fun – guaranteed!

For information or reservations give me (Daria) a call at: (727) 753-9631

I’ll probably be busy most of the time during these three days and it’s not my intention to ignore anyone. Therefore, you’re more than welcome to say hi any time. I might not have time to chat with you so I’m sending out some hugs today and letting you know in advance how happy I am to see you having fun at our Slovenian-American Club hall in Spring Hill.

1998 I WAS JAMMIN’ AT SPRING HILL WHEN MR. FRANK YANKOVIC WAS
BROUGHT IN AND SAT TO OUR RIGHT WITH HIS WIFE. AT THE END OF THE JAM I SUGGESTED WE PLAY A COUPLE OF HIS SONGS FOR HIM AND TED
PERKOVICH ON TUBA AND MYSELF WITH AS MANY JAMMERS THAT
COULD PLAY, PLAYED THE BLUE SKIRT WALTZ AND JUST BECAUSE! IT WAS
MY PERSONAL BEST MUSIC EVENT IN MY LIFE. I THEN WENT OVER AND
THANKED HIM FOR DOING WHAT HE DID FOR “OUR MUSIC” AND SHOOK
HIS HAND! FRANKIE PASSED AWAY IN OCT OF THAT YEAR.
YEARS LATER I WAS AT A DANCE AT THE PHILLIPS, WI AMERICAN LEGION.
HIS WIFE (WHOSE HOUSE HAD A FIRE AND MANY OF FRANKIE’S AWARDS
WERE BURNED UP) WAS AT THAT DANCE AND SHE WAS GIVEN SEVERAL REPLACEMENT MOMENTO’S FROM THE LEGION.
    LONG LIVE THE POLKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Gary,
Thank you for sharing your memory of the great polka musician and entertainer Frank Yankovic. Many people I know remember him with smiles on their faces and many of his tunes are just as popular as they were when he was still alive and probably the most famous member and promoter of the polka community.

If you have any photos with Frank Yankovic, let me know, I’d be more than happy to publish them online.

Thanks again and get better soon!

    Dear Daria,

I am producing hand made traditional clothes in Slovenia. I plan to make a promotion tour true the States. Do you think there is interest for that?
Is it possible to give me some adresses from Slovene clubs in the States?
