What happened to Suncoast SNPJ Lodge 778 in Spring Hill, FL

I’ve been struggling with an answer to the question above for a long time. After being asked for an explanation – countless times – via emails, phone calls and in person, I knew that at some point I will sit down and write some kind of a brief.

It might take me some time to finish the story and scan and upload all the accompanying documents. But everything is more or less compiled and ready – so I am determined to finish my writing on the issue – as soon as possible.

I’m trying not to take sides in the matter – if that’s at all possible. Instead, I trust that everything will somehow turn out well.

I have to admit, though, that I don’t agree with certain measures that were taken. At least one of them personally affected me – and not in a positive way.

My main reason for this writing about this issue is that – there are many rumors going around in the Slovenian/ethnic/polka community. Some facts might make the case less black and white.

In the meantime, there’s just one thing I’d like to add.

If you’ve ever researched the history of Slovenians to any extent, you might be familiar with the fact how a group of a million (or less) Slovenian people persevered through many dark centuries – no matter how many times they were annexed and drafted by a much larger country – and had their living space divided among different empires and kingdoms.

Amidst all the nations on this planet they were just a handful of people and most of the time they had nothing but love in their hearts…

  • for their language – even when its use was ruled out by the powerful crowned heads
  • for their culture and traditions
  • for their music – no wonder most of the old Slovenian folk songs have sad lyrics as such was the life for most
  • for their homeland – that was not even on the maps (most of the time)

However, this observation is not meant to prove the greatness or determination of Slovenian people. Rather, the history of Slovenes is just another example how no authority is powerful enough to take away the passion people carry in their hearts.

Lodge 778 has been officially ‘dechartered by the SNPJ National Board‘ and immediately dissolved on May 16, 2011. Members have been ‘transferred to SNPJ Lodge 603, Samsula, Florida‘ – effective immediately – with an option of transferring to another active SNPJ Lodge of choice.

Nevertheless, people who are willing to organize and those who are looking forward to attend events in Spring Hill – are still around. When I saw all that desire to keep around this fun place to go dancing, I forgot how disappointed I felt at one time.

I let go of the idea of not ever going to the Spring Hill hall again. At one point I thought I was never going to see some people I met there – ever again. That didn’t feel good or right – at all.

And these are my reasons that I am – once again – promoting events at the Spring Hill hall. I just love seeing happy people, having fun.

In the mean time, there’s a funny twist happening, very unexpectedly.

All of a sudden I am being contacted by the presidents of other clubs around. They expressed their interest in working together.

I can’t really describe how good this kind of ideas make me feel. In my opinion, life should be all about the cooperation, not competition.

So for now, let me just say that the thought of all the positive changes that are about to happen – makes me smile.

If you have a few minutes to spare and feel inclined to help former Lodge 778 (now) Suncoast Dance and Party Center in Spring Hill with some ideas, please visit the page below (by clicking on the link that will open a new window) – and express your opinion by voting in some polls and/or leaving some comments.

I’ll post the whole story as I know it – soon.

I WAS SORRY TO READ THAT LODGE 778 WAS DE-CHARTERED.
I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL
AND WELL ORGANIZED UNIT! I HOPE YOU CAN SOON BE RE-INSTATED
TO YOUR PREVIOUS CONDITION!
