What is a healthy breakfast?

I used to have big breakfasts. I’d wake up hungry and had to eat ‘something solid’ – to get me going. At that time my breakfasts looked more like other people’s lunch or dinner.

Then I got pregnant and had an urge to switch to having fruits first thing in the morning. Still, my portions were humongous…

I stayed with mostly-fruits-for breakfast for many years – until I one day switched to bananas-only. I ate up to five bananas every morning. Sometimes sliced, sometimes mashed on a piece of toasted and buttered bread – or I turned them into a smoothie.

At that time I bought so many bananas once a week that the cashiers at the grocery store kept asking me if I was about to make a banana bread… lol
.
My next breakfast phase came when I all of a sudden couldn’t even stand a thought of having any kind of food in the morning. However, I did feel the need to drink – quite a lot – and (mineral) water felt like a perfect choice for me.

I’ve added a freshly squeezed grapefruit juice as my second every-morning beverage. After that I always have some hot (organic) chocolate soy milk, even during the hottest summer days.
.
This has been my breakfast for months now – just a lot of liquid: water, grapefruit juice, chocolate soy milk. But not even that seems to be carved in stone. When I spent a month up north – in Pennsylvania and Ohio – this summer, I couldn’t even make myself drink one glass of grapefruit juice!

So, what is a healthy breakfast, anyway?
.
My guess is that the answer to the question above might be different for every individual. And – that it keeps changing with time and location. I noticed that as I travel around – I mostly enjoy local fruits that are in season at the time.
.
Besides, when there’s something that makes me feel good (in food and otherwise) – I go for it… 🙂
.
And – by the way – I’ve always been thin and in good health.
